FIJIAN KAURI Agathis Vitiensis
Island Kauri grows widely in many parts of Fiji. The colour ranges from pale cream to a golden brown and has innumerable small rays, which give the wood a dappled or flecked appearance.
Fijian Kauri is available in most sizes and good long lengths.
The timber seasons well and can be kiln dried easily with very little shrinkage. Strength properties increase considerably on drying.
It has a regular, straight grain and a close, fine, uniform texture. It seasons well and although it is moderately hard for a softwood, it is easy to work. It saws easily, works readily with hand tools, machines and turns beautifully. It finishes with a silky smoothness that will take both natural finishes and paint well.
